A brief History of EWEF

1995:

January 1995, EWEF started providing Pre-Schooling Education, Early child Care and mentoring Educational Programs to local community Kids, working to help Bridge the In-equality of Access to Quality Education for Underprivileged Children. On September 8th started providing food, clothing & mentoring to homeless youths in Flamborough.

2003:

January 2003, EWEF moved to Hamilton. Operating from the "Hamilton Self Help Center". EWEF then expanded its education and mentoring program to include teaching new immigrants "Functional English" and "Standard English" as a second language. In March, EWEF also started giving counseling help on literacy, Pre-Schoolling, general education & skilled-trade training specifically geared to disadvantaged Kids and streets youths in the Hamilton area.

2005:

December 2005, EWEF established Egbe Woghiren educational foundation; offering scholarship for education opportunity to poor youths and talented adults in impoverished communities. This initiative became a priority when Chief Egbe O. Woghiren - "The Agbonmoba of Benin Kingdom" (Edwin's father) died tragically from diabetes (which is easily treatable with simple insulin) due to in-availability of the needed treatment and lack of specialized clinic facilities with working equipments and functioning related amenities. And there were no trained technical health workers or specialized nursing-help professionals available! This is in deed the root cause for the human sufferings and the perpetual poverty in this particular community and others like it.

For this reason, EWEF mission evolved to now include "Trade Immersion Projects" for trainees within the skilled-trade training program, and focused its relief effort on giving qualified specialized help to the poor, suffering folks and impoverished communities who lacked infrastructure facilities, health equipments and other vital technological needs that requires specialized trades skill for operation, maintenance and repair.

With this new mandate, EWEF “Mission Goal” became the EWEF 3S itself; … which is to trained local maintenance workers for Self Help, Self Sustenance and Self Reliance in the suffering community, by targeting Youths and talented individuals for the job”!

2006:

May 2006 EWEF as an NGO become a full fledge Canadian federally registered Non-profit organization. EWEF models its “working principle” on the notion of …“Give someone fish, it’s eaten and soon gets hungry again, but teach to fish, that someone feeds himself for life”! EWEF’s “Relief ideal and working Policy” is “Giving a Hand-Up, NOT a Hand-Out”! EWEF working principle continued to be strictly based on the EWEF 3S; ... Its MISSION! - (See EWEF 3S).

In June 2006 EWEF became both a chattered charitable as well as a nonprofit organization in its own right. Achieving this was milestone in EWEF progress.

2007:

February 2007, EWEF started its global relief effort. Its work was focused on local infrastructure need in targeted suffering communities. To accomplish this, EWEF started using a relief work method based on "SELF-HELP" with a pro-active approach using education as the main tool. This means training local youth's in Skilled-Trades that is needed to sustain their communities in self reliance. As an NGO and with self raised funds, EWEF help and relief effort now included the good old fashion "Bootstrap" and "By-your-self" effort and work ethic by recipients. ..."Not just hand outs"! To accomplish this EWEF provides the necessary skilled-trade training! From this effort, EWEF became a functioning global NGO; practicing the ..."teach to fish, rather than give fish"! Hence the EWEF mantra "Bridging the technological divide of Third and First Words" and the functioning slogan of; “Give a hand-up, Not a hand-out”!

2009:

In September 2009, EWEF shifted its focus on Africa and also began its global educational Services; specializing in technological Infrastructure facilities, equipment, amenities and supplies, while continuing to provide all the related Skilled-Trade training to the locals to maintain and sustain them.

Event Showcase 1Youths - 2009/10 Orientation

..."EWEF believes practices teaching to fish rather than giving fish; and so we strictly promote hands-up, NOT hands-out! Join us in this effort to make the world a better and peaceful place for all. Together as partners we fulfil the notion given us by the 'Most high'; of doing onto others as we would like done onto us; particularly to those less fortunate for no fault of thier own but natural circumstance; holding true the premise that we are indeed our brothers keeper!" ... - Edwin O. Woghiren - (Founder)
